On the 4th December 2017, the Office of the Chief Master of The High Court issued a directive advising a substantial increase in “Masters Fees”. It must be noted, that the Masters fees were last set in 1986.

“Masters fees” is an administration cost paid to the Master of The High Court’s offices for deceased estates.

This fee has been increased from a maximum fee of R600-00 for an estate of just over R200 000-00 to a new maximum of R7000 for an estate of R3.6 Million.

If you wish to make a quick calculation for liquidity in an estate:-
– Estates between R250 000-00 and R400 000-00 = R 600
– For every R100 000-00 after that R200.00 subject to a maximum of R7000
